These days anyone with a smartphone has the access to become Instafamous. We have all seen the rise of influencers, with even companies such as Tribe (Founded by Jules Lund) sourcing influencers to promote products and services. But access doesn’t equal ability.
Being famous for the sake of being famous doesn’t seem to be the main goal for people wanting to grow their audience base and popularity, it’s more about the benefits of this that people like – becoming an influencer.
The popularity of influencers stems from the love of anything celebrity and helps consumers to identify with more ‘normal’ people as opposed to the A-List celebrity types, which often feel untouchable. Influencers have the ability to sway opinions, with data showing that 22 per cent of 18-34 year-olds made a large purchase after seeing an online influencer endorsing the item (Clickz)
In the past, if you wanted to grace the screens or the inside of magazines due to your look and style, it was something you needed to go through a modelling agency for. You were very much at the mercy of someone liking the way you look. Now, though, anyone can become the next influencer to follow, watch, and seek either endorsement from. Many use it as a platform to sell a product, service or advocate for a cause.
There are 3 main steps to work through if you want to become instafamous and cash in on something that is fast becoming an industry in its own right.
Step 1. DECIDE
If you want to become instafamous, the first step is to decide on what it is that you want to be known for – is it a product, service or is to more about being known as yourself?
The first option gives you the ability to create a presence around you without you feeling like you have to be an expert. You can rely on incorporating the product or service you want to leverage off, which can help with the building of confidence to get out there. This can be a bit slower if you don’t have a product or service to start promoting and talking about.
The other option of making it all about you and if this is what you choose that’s great, because you don’t need to source a product or service to start promoting. This is the quicker of the two to get off the ground.
Step 2. Plan
This is a crucial step to any kind of marketing you do and becoming instafamous is wholly about marketing yourself as someone to watch and listen to and as someone who knows their stuff.
Once you’ve decided the angle you’re going to take, it’s time to plan it out. Start with a 90 day action plan. Map out the objectives first.
For example, the first 90 days is about building up content focussed around your decision in Step 1. Plan the topics that you’ll create posts for.
Think about the audience that you want to reach, starting with their demographics first and foremost, as this will help you with creating the content that they’ll look at. The way a 17 year old female uses Instagram is very different to the way that a 35+ year old female uses Instagram.
The next piece of this puzzle is to determine how your audience want to feel and start planning your content to help move them into those feelings.
For example, if you’re a stylist and you know your audience want to feel confident and sexy, then you can plan your content around that. If you’re a builder specialising in renovating, and your audience want to feel excited, confident and empowered about the prospect of renovating their home rather than feeling nervous and tentative, then you’ll plan your content around that.
The final step in the planning phase is to be clear about what you want people to do when they find you. Do you want them to buy something or subscribe to something? Follow you and ‘see first’? Make sure you have this in your plan so when you start implementing, you can use it straight away.
Step 3. Commit and Implement
As with everything, results only come with implementation and commitment. These two things are crucial to you building up your profile and fame on Instagram because you won’t see results instantly. It takes time and consistency to get results.
Make sure that you’re posting high-value content regularly. On Instagram, this means making sure you’ve got great imagery going up that will spark the attention of your audience and also ensure that you have the excellent captions in the text to go along with the imagery.
Most of all, becoming Instafamous in this day and age is more reachable than ever before if you follow these three steps and stick at it.
