It’s official: Amazon’s first warehouse to open in Dandenong

Amazon has announced it will open its first Australian fulfilment centre in Dandenong, with long-time Amazon employee, Rocco Braeuniger, set to take up the reins of the Australian operations.

The announcement has ended months of speculation as to where the online giant would set up shop. The company is now on the hunt for the first of its employees, with Amazon’s Australian director of operations, Robert Bruce, telling media the company would begin recruiting for 100s of jobs immediately.

Amazon will take over the site of the former Bunnings distribution centre.

“We are thrilled to be creating hundreds of new roles in Dandenong South,” Bruce said.

“This is just the start. Over time, we will bring thousands of new jobs to Australia and millions of dollars of investment as well as opening up the opportunity for thousands of Australian businesses to sell at home and abroad through Amazon Marketplace.”

Bruce said the fulfilment centre will stock hundreds of thousands of products which will be available for delivery to customers across Australia.

“We will be focusing on offering our Australian customers low prices on a great selection of products and can’t wait to get started.”
