The startup business for extreme sports lovers celebrates its own win

Local Kensington entrepreneur, Gary Elphick of DisruptSports.com has been named as the winner of Start Up Business of the Year in the Optus My Business Awards – paving the way for success of small businesses in the area.

DisruptSports.com has been recognised by the awards for building a unique and innovative manufacturing on demand start-up business that caters to the needs of extreme sports lovers all over Australia.

DisruptsSports.com was created when founder, Gary, spotted an opportunity in the extreme sport category in Australia to provide high quality, bespoke designed sport equipment to enthusiasts. Manufacturing everything from surfboards and snowboards to skating equipment; DisruptSports allows customers to customise and design their own equipment, which they then make locally, and deliver.

Speaking about what the award means to him, Gary hopes this win will inspire other entrepreneurs in the local area to the follow their dreams.


“We started DisruptSports.com with an idea that would shake up the extreme sports category so it’s a great feeling to be recognised by the Optus My Business Awards in the startup category. Innovation is at the core of our business and has been crucial to our success from the start so we would encourage other budding entrepreneurs who have an innovative idea to explore how they can make it a reality,”
