Frustrated by a lack of quality low-cost product in the men’s grooming market, Oscar De Vries launched a razor subscription service to deliver a superior product direct to consumers.
Founded in 2014 Oscar Razor has grown into a successful online business that services 10s of 1000s of men around Australia.
“Typically, men look for three things when it comes to grooming: high quality, low cost and convenience. I founded Oscar Razor because I believed none of the razor companies satisfied all three,” De Vries tells Kochie’s Business Builders (KBB).
To kick-start his business, De Vries sought the assistance of his bank.
“For us, as a business, it was very important for us to get going quickly,” says De Vries,
Having dealt with several of the major banks previously, De Vries tells KBB he opted to go with NAB because of their reputation for assisting small businesses.
“NAB has been a lot more proactive in helping small business and seeing what you want to achieve than some of the other banks,” De Vries comments.
“We use the payment gateway Braintree. And it’s integrated seamlessly within the NAB banking system for us. It makes it very easy to accept credit cards and PayPal from customers and the payments flow straight through to the bank account.
De Vries says not having to worry about tracking payment transactions frees up his time to focus on other areas of the business.
“So it’s really a very seamless process. You spend less time integrating it into your website and you can get your product or service going much quicker without having to worry too much about the technical side.
“As a business owner, I can spend more time driving the business, marketing the product and focusing on finding growth capital.”
