Are you a woman with a great business idea? Then Mums & Co’s MPowered Pitch Competition could provide just the motivation you need to make your idea a reality.
With only 2.2 percent of venture capital funds currently being awarded to women-led ventures, Carrie Kwan, co-founder of Mums & Co wants to level the playing field. Kwan is encouraging women-led small businesses to take part in the MPowered Pitch Comp and present their ideas to a panel of investors.
The women chosen to pitch will go in the running to win a prize pool worth over $34,000 and receive invaluable guidance from leading experts on how to turn an idea into a commercial business.
Kwan tells Kochie’s Business Builders she was inspired to launch the pitch comp following feedback from a recent Mums & Co survey.
“Our recent Mums & Co survey showed one in two new businesses believe that financial concerns act as a major barrier to them starting a business – whether it is capital to develop an idea or set up the business, or having the necessary cash flow to run the business,” she explains.
Kwan encourages anyone who has a great business idea to enter.
“It’s not just winners who win as all successful entrants gain vital benefits including learning pitch skills, business exposure, idea validation, and even potential funding,” says Kwan.
Applications close on May 14, with successful applicants expected to attend a Pitch Competition Day in Sydney on May 31. Four finalists will be chosen to compete in the Pitch Finals Event on June 18.
All successful applicants are also invited to an online pitch training Pitch Webinar on May 23 delivered by serial founders, experienced startup mentors, trainers and business leaders.
Whilst the focus is on women, Kwan stresses that the competition is also open to men provding at least one female is a founding team member.
“The Mums & Co MPowered Pitch Competition is a supportive and inclusive event to champion more women in business and start-ups, close the gap in financial knowledge as well as reduce the challenges with funding a business,” says Kwan.
The Pitch comp winners will go home with a prize pool that includes $30,000 of in-kind prototype design and build services from Techwitty and strategy sessions with leading members of the Australian investment community including; Kevin O’Hara, Tulla Private Equity / Techwitty, Rachel Tonkin, AMB Capital, and Jeremy Liddle, Capital Pitch
