How automation can help women in business free up time

- March 8, 2024 2 MIN READ

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Count Her In’ is a particularly inspirational message for women in business, as it celebrates accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment, writes Elise Balsillie, Head of Thryv Australia.

Every day, I am lucky to meet many inspirational female small business owners who epitomise economic empowerment.

From female owners across sectors including trades, beauty, dental, allied health and accounting, small businesses across the nation are powered by successful women who are also mums, spouses, sisters and aunties.

How do they manage to run a small business and juggle work with friends and family life?

Running a business is no walk in the park, especially while simultaneously trying to grow customers.

From making very long to-do lists to reaching out to clients and keeping the books up to-date, it can feel like you’re always short on time.

One solution to manage the grind and improve quality of life is automation. The good news is that, with the right business platform, automation is incredibly easy.

Automate appointment reminders

Have you ever blocked out your calendar for a customer appointment, only for them to no-show or answer their phone? When clients forget about their appointments, it costs your business money.

Automation ensures your customers are where they say they’ll be. By automating text and email reminders for the days leading up to the appointment, you’re giving your clients the heads-up they need – without any manual work from you.

Offer online bookings

Offering customers only a phone number to schedule bookings is a very limited approach. Online bookings are a far more efficient use of time for both you and your customers.

By adding a booking button to your website, you’re empowering your customers to take control of their calendars and allowing yourself to see on-the-spot scheduling across the workweek. You’re also eliminating the extra step of adding appointments to your business calendar. With online booking, that happens automatically.

When you accept online bookings you do more than free up time and energy:

  • Your business can technically be open around the clock. That means more bookings.
  • Customers can compare their schedules to your availability. That results in fewer no-shows.
  • Bookings can be connected with digital pay-anytime options. That means you get paid faster.

It’s an easy win-win for both you and your customers.

Optimise invoicing and avoid chasing payments

Offering online bookings isn’t the only way to get paid faster. Billing process automation can speed up how you collect payments.

A simple task like converting an approved estimate into an invoice creates a faster and more cost-effective way to collect your money.

By offering multiple easy ways to pay, your customers can choose what works best for them. That means less hassle for accounts receivable.

For many business owners, automating day-to-day admin tasks gives them enough time back in their day to focus on what really matters – whether that is fostering core business growth or spending more time with friends and family. Finding the right business management platform can make automation…automatic.
