Great Wrap founder Jordy Kay had a dream to create a sustainable compostable cling wrap that could keep food fresh without the nasty plastic byproducts traditionally associated with food wrappers.
An industry ripe for disruption
A winemaker by trade, Jordy tells KBB he was tired of seeing the amount of plastic cling wrap being generated and thought the sector was ripe for disruption. Brainstorming with his wife, the couple decided to come up with a solution: a biopolymer wrap that is biodegradable.
Three years on, and Great Wrap has secured a loyal following of devoted customers, conquering a wider audience as well with many industries adopting the brand’s biopolymer pallette wrap. Home users have also been swift to adopt the product via its presence on Amazon Launchpad.
Still, Kay says the brand’s quest is far from over. Great Wrap has been busy setting up a manufacturing facility in Australia. The ambition: to produce a marine-degradable biopolymer in 2021.
