The premier Gladys Berejiklian says a “crisis cabinet meeting” will decide this morning whether restrictions will be lifted or increased across Sydney today.
Berejiklian says the decision will come down to the wire as the government and health authorities take into consideration the latest NSW Covid-19 data.
The ruling will decide how people across the greater Sydney area will spend the holiday season, with Christmas day celebrations hanging in the balance. Amongst the decisions: whether those in the northern beaches can come out of lockdown and whether gatherings of 10 will still be permitted.
The ruling comes following a record number of tests across NSW.
“Clearly we are very much in the hands of Dr Kerry Chant and the public health team,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.
“And their assessment of the relative risk of moving away from what we know has already worked to bring down numbers.”
