City of Sydney council is keen to hear from local business owners looking to expand their cultural offerings in the city.
The council is offering a new range of business grants aimed at growing and diversifying retail and professional services with a focus on live music and performances and further opportunities for night time trade.
The new grants are available for retail and other professional services businesses to establish or increase their range of business activities or events at night.
The grants are also available for local venues and businesses wanting to make improvements or boost their live music programming.
[watch] Councillor Jess Skully explains the new grants.
Applications are now open for the following:
Night-time diversification – matched grant up to $30,000 for 1 or 2 years for programming at night (6pm to 6am) to encourage increased variety of offerings in commercial precincts.
Non-licensed businesses can apply for funds to enable programming of evening activities to support extending day time trading hours into the evening. For example, opening hours for a book or fashion store extended to 10pm with extra programming such as book readings or fashion talks.
All business types can apply for funds to enable the introduction or expansion of live music and performances, or other activity programmed at night.
Live music and performance – matched grant up to $30,000 for venue improvements to grow and enhance the quality and quantity of programming.
The program is open to not-for-profit, for-profit organisations or social enterprises that are active in the City of Sydney area. You must demonstrate matched funding in the form of cash contributions. You are welcome to apply for multiple distinct projects, either in the same round or over time. The grants program can’t support projects retrospectively.
