The City of Sydney has announced a slew of grants aimed at breathing life back into the city. The activation and community grants programs will not only help foster creative projects in the heart of the city but will assist Sydney’s most vulnerable and at risk.
Grants available
Cultural sector innovation grants
The City has half a million up for grabs as part of the Cultural sector innovation grants with up to $20k on offer per project. The grant is open to sole traders, cultural and creative small-to-medium not-for-profit or for-profit organisations who employ less than 20 full-time employees and have a turnover of less than $10 million. Businesses need to either be in or provide service to the City of Sydney area.
Funding will support the development of innovative operating models, programs and collaborations.
Community services grant
The council has a total of $800,000 available for funding of social enterprises. With additional value-in-kind fee waivers for community venues (limited availability). Conditions and health requirements apply. Funds are available for not-for-profits, or auspiced individual or groups of individuals to provide food, digital assistance and programs to support vulnerable community groups, temporary visa holders, social housing residents or people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Applicants need to be located in the City of Sydney area. Projects from $5-$50,000 will be considered. Multiple organisations partnering to achieve a shared goal may be eligible for more funding.
CBD activation grant
The city has $3million dollars earmarked for activation alongside an additional value-in-kind fee waiver for street banners and landmark venues is also available. You can apply for between $5-50k. City centre-based businesses in arts, culture, entertainment, tourism and accommodation services are encouraged to apply
This activation grant is a joint effort between the council and the state government. It encourages collaborations between business and creatives to activate space in the public domain and vacant corporate space with live music and cultural programming to enliven the city centre, inspire visitors to safely return and help revitalise the economy.
