Canberra-based cybersecurity firm, Penten, has scooped up the top honour at this year’s Telstra Business Awards for its work in securing the data of government agencies from digital threats.
The company also picked up the 2018 Telstra Australian Medium and Making Waves Award for their work enabling government users to access classified information on mobile devices (secure mobility), and tricking and trapping attackers with realistic decoys using machine learning (cyber deception).
Penten was awarded the top gong following an in-depth interview with a panel of high profile judges, including Janine Allis, founder of Boost Juice and Retail Zoo, Stevan Premutico, founder of Dimmi, and Tracey Spicer, journalist, author and founder of Outspoken Women.
Telstra CEO Andy Penn said the judges were impressed by Penten’s clear strategic vision, deep engagement for the customer and commitment to people and culture.
“Penten’s world-class technology has gained the trust of Australian government agencies, propelling the business to exponential growth over the last three years,” said Penn.
Penn suggested all the category winners reflected the spirit of innovation.
“The winners are all shining examples of businesses doing great things. They’re not afraid to take a risk, to choose innovation first and to keep pushing their vision forward. Getting to this stage of the Telstra Business Awards is a huge achievement. It’s the culmination of all their hard work,” Penn said.
The other national winners of the 2018 Telstra Australian Business Awards are:
Emerging & Energised Award – Scoot Boots (TAS), innovative hoof boot maker
Small & Succeeding Award – Pachamama (WA), childcare centres using art and nature to encourage younger generations to ‘think outside the square’
Social Change Maker Award – Think Place (ACT), strategic design consultancy solving complex problems within the public, private and humanitarian sectors
