7 habits of a successful digital entrepreneur

- March 7, 2023 4 MIN READ

What makes a great entrepreneur? It’s not just about being resourceful or having a great idea. It’s also about being able to take risks and move forward without hesitation, explains Hemi Hossain, entrepreneur and author of Fire Your Boss.

If you want to be successful, it’s not enough to know what you’re doing. You must know how to do it. In fact, there is a 95 per cent chance that your behaviour will be determined by your habits – not by your genes or upbringing.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you’re doing the right things at the right times. It’s not easy to change your habits – but it can be done!

If you want to improve your life, try making positive changes in the following areas:

1. Have a flexible mindset

When you are an entrepreneur, it’s important to have a flexible mindset. This allows you to move into new fields and improve your ideas through iteration. It also keeps you humble so that you’re not afraid of failure.

To be successful as an entrepreneur, you must be able to see opportunities, abilities, and talents in all people. When you do this, you’ll always strive for change and new challenges – and make space for improvement.

2. Plan the week!

The most successful people in the world do something particular: they plan their week. This is one of the things that every successful person does while the average person doesn’t.

The average person tends to go into their day in reaction mode. They just hope that everything goes well, while it seems like the most successful people in the world go into their day with a plan ready to execute.

Take 20-30 minutes out of your Sunday each week and spend that time planning how you’re going to make it all happen using your skills and resources! We all have busy lives, but we can make time for our best selves by taking that extra step of planning our week before we begin it.

3. Networking

You’ve heard the saying, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” And I’m here to tell you that networking is the best way to build your network.

Networking is an essential skill for the growth of any business. With a strong network, you will save time and funds when looking for prospective clients, services or vendors. A good entrepreneurship network can improve your core skills and build communication abilities with other entrepreneurs, while providing financial possibilities with new upcoming clients.

According to Thomas Corley, in his book, Networking: The New Rules, 79 per cent of wealthy people spend at least five hours a month networking.

4. Rise early

The more time you can devote to success, the more likely success will result. Successful people are accustomed to rising early, and that habit repeatedly appears among those who do well in life.

While the ‘Early Risers Club’ has a massive membership among successful people, a few notable members include Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group, Disney CEO Robert Iger, and former Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer.

These people have embraced their need for early morning hours with vigour – they wake up at 4:30 or 5am every day and work through the day until 9pm every night. In doing so, they can take advantage of the most productive hours of the day by remaining alert and focused.

5. Prioritise self-care!

When you’re a digital entrepreneur, time is money. You must be able to manage your time effectively and maximise your productivity. But what do you do when you’re sick? You can’t really work if you’re not healthy. But you can’t afford to take time off either.

The best thing to do is prioritise self-care. If you find that it’s difficult for you to prioritise self-care because of work or other commitments, make sure that when the time comes for treatment, that priority is getting well again.

6. Read more

A lot of times we think that knowledge is power, right? We think that if you know more things, then you’ll be able to do more things. Well, it turns out that’s not actually true! It’s just the opposite! The more knowledge you have, the less power you have over your life.

The average American reads about one to two books per year. The average CEO, which means that they’re at the top of their company, reads 60 books per year. Just take that in for a second. They find time to grow consistently. They also clearly don’t think that they know everything if they’re still reading. It’s not just that they’re reading novels; they’re reading content that is improving them and helping them get better – and it only takes a few minutes each day.

So, can you start reading more? Can you do a book per month? Have you ever cranked out 12 books in a year?

7. Be action-oriented

We all have goals, but if you want to achieve them, you need to be able to get on with the job and get it done fast. You need to develop and maintain a sense of urgency and a bias for action. You can’t wait for things to happen; you must make them happen.

You need to overcome procrastination, push aside your fears and launch 100 per cent toward the achievement of your most important goals. The combination of goal-orientation, result-orientation, and action-orientation in themselves will virtually assure great success.

Being a digital entrepreneur is not an easy and enjoyable job as it sounds, instead it can be a harsh role. But with a proper mindset and balanced lifestyle, you can make great success in the online business world.

The finest successful habits, like waking up early every day, only require intentional effort. Success is the most desired consequence of all, although some may require a little more skill and practice than others, like getting organised.
