Local business owner, City of Sydney Councillor and small business advocate, Angela Vithoulkas, has decided to throw her hat into the ring for a shot at NSW state parliament.
Vithoulkas is launching a new party, Small Business Matters, with the hopes to challenge the status quo and deliver a voice for small business in NSW. The passionate small business owner who has run Sydney’s Vivo café for more than a decade is hoping other small business owners will join her to campaign for a better deal.
“Major parties are out of touch with the realities of running a small business on the ground and while they like to pay lip service by trotting out the well-worn line that ‘small business is the engine room of the economy’, their words are hollow”, Vithoulkas said.
Indeed, recent statistics show 98 per cent of businesses operating in NSW is small business, yet Vithoulkas says party politics pander to the big end of town.
“There are many issues that need more focus from Government and the devastating impact of light rail construction is a classic example of what can happen when that impact isn’t considered as part of the planning process.
“It is only by having a small business representative involved in the legislative process that pro-active steps can be taken to address the negative impacts of Government decision making.”
Vithoulkas hopes to be that voice. But in order for her plan to succeed, Vithoulkas is calling on other small business owners to join her by becoming a member of the Small Business Matters Party.
“I am calling on small business owners throughout NSW to come forward and support the Small Business Matters Party so that we finally have a ‘common sense’ voice at a State Government level,” Vithoulkas said.
In order to meet requirements to register as a new party for the 2019 NSW state elections, Vithoulkas needs to have registered 1000 members to her party by October 26, 2017.
If you’d like to join Vithoulkas in her quest to bring about a better deal for small business then you may want to register to become a member of the Small Business Matters Party.
